Surface modelling with COHIBA

At NR, we offer a practical course in the use of COHIBA – a key tool for surface modelling in the oil and gas industry.

The course provides insight into both basic and advanced functionality of the tool, with a strong emphasis on using real-world data.

What is COHIBA?

COHIBA is a reference tool for surface modelling in the oil and gas industry, and is used for fast and consistent modelling of geological layers in the subsurface.

Using advanced statistics, COHIBA integrates well data with surface information to generate realistic models of geological structures. The tool is particularly useful in well planning, drilling, and volumetric uncertainty studies.

Course content

NR offers courses in both introductory and advanced use of COHIBA. The training combines theory with practical exercises, focusing on real-world challenges.

Topics covered include:

  • Prediction and simulation using various types of variograms
  • Trend and residual modelling
  • Depth conversion, isochore maps, and multiple model handling
  • Conditioning to horizontal wells
  • Insight into the use of log files for quality assurance

The course runs over 1–2 days and can be tailored to participants’ prior knowledge and requirements.

Who is this course for?

The course is relevant for anyone working with geomodels and simulation models, and especially valuable for geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers.

No prior experience is required, but participants must have access to either Petrel or RMS modelling software.
