The Norwegian Centre for Trustworthy AI
Towards artificial intelligence that is understandable, responsible and safe to use.

About TRUST
TRUST is Norway’s national research centre for trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI). As a multidisciplinary collaboration, the centre brings together leading research environments in technology, law, social sciences and philosophy both in Norway and internationally. TRUST explores how AI can be developed and used in ways that are fair, transparent, sustainable and beneficial to society as a whole.
The research spans AI theory, methods, law and practical studies. The results will be tested in areas such as healthcare, transport, public administration, security, and climate and environment. Users and citizens take an active part in this work, helping to test different solutions and assess how reliable research and innovation actually are.
NR contributes with expertise in machine learning, data analysis and methods for trustworthy AI. We develop solutions that make artificial intelligence more robust, transparent and verifiable, and technology that can be used in practice.
Research that combines technology, ethics and law
Trustworthy AI is not only about precise algorithms, but also about understanding the ethical, social and legal consequences of the technology. How does artificial intelligence affect democracy, legal safeguards and the environment? In which areas should we move quickly, and where should we proceed with caution?
At TRUST, research spans everything from theoretical models and technical solutions to ethical guidelines and legal frameworks. The aim is to develop artificial intelligence that is understandable, inclusive and responsible across different domains and uses.
Knowledge for the future
The centre also aims to educate the next generation of AI experts and strengthen national expertise in responsible technology. Our ambition is for Norway to become a driving force in the development of responsible AI, benefiting research, industry and society at large.
