TRANSPLAN is a new research center that aims to provide knowledge on the role of the transport system in Norway’s transition to a low-emission society by 2050. It will develop models, methods and decision-making processes necessary to plan for an effective and feasible transition, in line with climate and nature commitments.

The center will develop strategies for the transport sector and related areas that align with greenhouse gas reduction targets and nature preservation under varying scenarios. It will improve and develop models to enhance scenario analysis and strategy development. In addition, it will examine consumer and organizational adaptation to policy changes using advanced empirical and experimental methods.

TRANSPLAN has a strong team of research institutions, including the leading transport research environments in Norway, all six national transport agencies and other key stakeholders. The research will cover all modes of transport (road, rail, maritime and aviation), and both passenger and freight transport.
Three new national research centers for transport are funded by the Research Council of Norway, and NR is participating in two of them; TRANSPLAN and ResiTrans. TRANSPLAN is hosted by TØI, and the center has 7 research partners in addition to 16 user partners.
